Godwin Grech officially Turnbull fallguy
The Daily Telegraph reports Mr Grech’s front screen-door and pristine white walls were covered in egg yolk, and eggshells are littered on the door and slated entrance.
The report of the attacks came as Liberal Leader Malcolm Turnbull, who had been standing firm against Labor’s calls for the Prime Minister to resign, said he had relied upon Mr Grech’s testimony last Friday to a Senate committee.
“We were entitled to rely on what he said, but if he’s wrong then the case against Mr Rudd is not there,” Mr Turnbull told The Australian.
In Mr Grech’s peaceful suburban street in Calwell, South Canberra, neighbours had their recycling and rubbish bins out for collection – but not Mr Grech.
His Venetian blinds were drawn and awnings were down, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Neighbours said they neither heard nor saw anything suspicious overnight and were surprised at the egg attack.
One neighbour, John, believed Mr Gech was at home.
“You never see him,” he said.“He’s been here 10 years; I’ve seen him maybe two or three times.”
Neighbour Caren Boom said “the poor man” probably didn’t want any more media scrutiny.
Ms Boom said she would head over to Mr Grech’s home soon to wash off the mess.
